Let The Adventure Begin

Juniper Canyon is a gender-specific program for women 18 and over who are struggling with substance abuse, trauma, unhealthy relationships, low self-esteem, anxiety and other mental health issues.

Juniper Canyon is a hybrid program that integrates the healing power of  adventure and wilderness therapy with the clinical intensity of a licensed residential treatment center.  The program is designed and delivered by women with years of experience in addressing  the specific needs of women.  Licensed as a Residential Treatment Center and accredited  by both  the Joint Commission on Accreditation and the Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare Council, Juniper Canyon provides a unique journey of healing and self-discovery for women.

The Importance of Treatment Created Specifically for Women

Our program encourages women to explore and heal core issues that are preventing them from living the life they are worthy of living. All therapy and programming is conducted within an environment of mutual respect, empowerment, and trauma-informed care. Our approach is designed to address substance abuse and other commonly presenting behaviors that often co-occur with trauma. We help women heal the underlying issues that are responsible for consistent self-sabotage. Our treatment team assesses the whole person, including an acknowledgement of the cultural influences and assumptions that many women have been raised with that may influence self-beliefs or behaviors.

Therapeutic techniques used at Juniper Canyon include:

  • Both individual and group therapy

  • Adventure Therapy

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

  • Art Therapy

  • Family Therapy including Internal Family Systems & Family Sculpting

  • Narrative Therapies

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Equine Assisted Therapy

The Strength to Heal is Already
Within Each of Us

Juniper Canyon provides women with a community of engaging guides and clinicians who personally model and cultivate balanced, healthy lives. We maintain a team of committed, experienced professionals who have cultivated an environment where women learn to trust and support their communities, often for the very first time. The lessons and successes that they experience in this area, allow them to build healthy friendships in early recovery, and to create their own supportive network when they return to their communities and families.

Juniper Canyon is a supportive, challenging enviroment that encourages personal responsibility and self-awareness. We recognize that healing is a process, and we may be just the beginning. Whether we are out on adventure, or at the treatment center, we focus on life-skill development, building healthy relationships, conflict resolution, self-care, and many other pieces that can be integrated into a healthy lifestyle once healing begins.

The Role of Adventure Therapy in the Path to Recovery

At Juniper Canyon we believe that healing is enhanced through adventure experiences that foster empowerment and the development of self-efficacy. Through activities like rock climbing, canyoneering, backpacking and mountain biking, women are able to face and overcome challenges within a safe, supportive container that is appropriately fit to their needs. Research shows that an increase in self-efficacy (i.e. an ability to exert control over or influence one's current experience) also results in increased positive performance in other areas of life including school, work, and relationships.
